The signature "little black dress" (LBD) is something every woman should have in her wardrobe. After all, a great LBD is versatile enough to be worn to work or even dressed up for a night out. Of course, not all little black dresses are created equal. There are some specific tips you'll want to keep in mind as you shop for this wardrobe staple.
DO Consider Adding a Belt
Black is a slimming color on everybody, but if you really want to accentuate the smallest part of your waist, consider finding a dress that you can pair with a great belt. Ideally, this belt will cinch around your torso at its smallest part, making you look even longer and leaner. Some dresses may have a built-in belt for these purposes, but you can always add one of your own as well.

Accessorizing a little black dress can be tricky. On the other hand, if your hips and shoulders are about the same width, then a straight-form dress can work wonders--elongating the body and making you appear even slimmer.
DON'T Choose a Trendy Design
The idea of a little black dress is that it's supposed to be timeless; a great LBD could last you for many years to come. For that reason, you should stay away from any super trendy designs that might not be popular in a year or two. Instead, stick with classic designs that have stood the test of time. This way, you can keep on rocking your little black dress for years without having to buy a new one.
